Some Operating Guidelines for Butterfly Valves

I. Control the Operating Force Appropriately
When operating a butterfly valve manually, it is necessary to keep the force applied uniform and avoid excessive or insufficient force.
Excessive force may cause damage to the internal structure of the valve;
Insufficient force may result in failure to fully open or close the valve, and it is particularly important to strictly control the force when operating large – diameter or high – pressure butterfly valves.
II. Adjust the Opening Degree Reasonably
If the butterfly valve is used for flow control, special attention should be paid to the nonlinear relationship between its opening degree and the flow rate.
When adjusting the flow rate, the opening degree of the valve should be accurately controlled according to actual needs to prevent inaccurate flow control or valve damage caused by improper opening.
III. Prevent Foreign Objects from Entering
Before opening the valve, it is necessary to check whether there are foreign objects (such as welding slag, debris, etc.) in the pipeline.
If there are foreign objects, they must be cleaned up in time to prevent them from damaging the sealing surface of the valve or hindering the normal operation of the valve core and butterfly plate.
IV. Reduce Frequent Operations
Frequent opening and closing of the butterfly valve will accelerate the wear of components and significantly shorten the service life of the valve.
If frequent adjustment of the flow rate or control of the on – off of the medium is required, it is recommended to replace it with a valve type more suitable for frequent operations.
